This
policy is intended to provide guidance for
the Board of Directors of NWDA and answer
questions for members who wish to apply
for funding to pursue their education in
the field of dressage.
It
is the intent to provide annual
scholarship funding for members in good
standing of NWDA because clinics and team
competitions can become unaffordable and
to provide incentive for members to pursue
additional training beyond the daily
discipline the sport requires.
Scholarships
are available to all association members
either amateur or professional, and Junior
and Senior riders alike, who wish to
continue their education. This Board
asks that each recipient of these funds
bring something back to the Association
members. For grants of $150 or less,
this Board requires an article for the
newsletter of a least 500 words in length.
For grants in an amount between $151 and
$500 the recipients will be required to
prepare a presentation to be delivered to
the membership or another appropriate
activity, to be approved by the
Scholarship Committee. The maximum
grant per individual in alternating years
is $500.
Scholarships
are for educational expenses only; clinic
fees, seminar fees, or special clinic
lessons; not for stabling, trailering,
accommodations, food or gas.
The
amount committed annually by the board is
$2000, so funding is limited. For
requests up to $150 applications must be
received a least 30 days in advance of the
event. For requests in excess of
$151, applications must be received at
least 60 days in advance.
Applications should include budgeted
expenses for the event, and a brief essay
that includes the following:
Original
membership year and activities in the
association
Description
for the event intended, including any
flier or resume of the clinician
Personal
history of member's experience in
dressage
Description
of intended membership presentation
Total
expenses and total revenue (if
applicable) anticipated for the program
Application
forms are included in the Association
Omnibus and in PDF here.
Scholarships are in the form of
reimbursement after report to the
membership is complete.
Any
questions can be addressed to any ember of
the Board of Directors or the scholarship
Committee.
